Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information Proper Honest Tech collects about you, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legal jargon. If anything here isn't clear, please email us and we'll explain it properly.
Who we are
Proper Honest Tech is a trading name of TGW Solutions Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.
- Company number: 11841583
- Registered office: 3rd Floor, 86–90 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NE, United Kingdom
- Email: [email protected]
TGW Solutions Ltd is the “data controller” for the information described in this policy. That means we're responsible for deciding how your information is used, and we're the ones you can hold accountable for it.
We're a very small business. There's no legal requirement for us to appoint a Data Protection Officer, and we haven't. If you have a question about your data, it comes to us directly at [email protected].
What information we collect
If you sign up to one of our free email newsletters (The Proper Weekly or The Daily Swipe), we collect your email address.
If you buy a course or ebook from us, we collect your name, email address, and billing address and country. We also keep a record of what you bought and when.
We do not see or store your card details. When you pay, your card information goes directly to Stripe, PayPal or Kajabi Payments, who are regulated payment providers. We only ever receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, plus the last few digits of the card for our records.
If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and whatever you write in your message.
If you have an account with us to access a course you've bought, we collect your login details and a record of which lessons you've viewed and completed. This is what lets you pick up where you left off.
If you simply visit the website, we collect limited technical information: your IP address, the type of device and browser you're using, which pages you looked at, and how you arrived at our site. This is described in more detail in the Cookies section below.
We do not collect any “special category” information — nothing about your health, ethnicity, religion, politics, or anything of that nature. We don't ask for it and we don't want it.
Why we use your information, and what allows us to
Data protection law requires us to have a valid reason — a “lawful basis” — for everything we do with your information. Here is exactly what we do and why.
To deliver a course or ebook you've bought
Lawful basis: performance of a contract. You've paid us for something, so we need your details in order to give you access to it, let you log in, and provide support if something goes wrong. Without this information we simply couldn't deliver what you paid for.
To take payment and keep proper business records
Lawful basis: performance of a contract, and legal obligation. We're required by HMRC to keep records of our sales for six years.
To send you our free newsletters
Lawful basis: your consent. You signed up, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and costs you nothing. We will never add you to a newsletter without you asking for it, and we have never bought or rented an email list.
To tell existing customers about our other courses
Lawful basis: our legitimate interests, and the “soft opt-in” rule in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. If you've bought something from us, we may occasionally email you about our other Apple-related courses and guides. You can opt out of these at any time, in every message. We think this is a reasonable thing for a small business to do and we don't believe it overrides your interests — but if you disagree, one click stops it.
To reply to you when you get in touch
Lawful basis: our legitimate interests. You've asked us a question, so we need your details to answer it.
To understand how the website is used
Lawful basis: our legitimate interests. We use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and where they get stuck, so we can improve the site. We don't use this to build a profile of you or to target you with advertising, and we don't share it with anyone else. You can switch it off in one click — see the Cookies section.
Automated decisions
We don't make any automated decisions about you, and we don't do profiling. A human being — usually Tom — reads and handles everything.
Who we share your information with
We don't sell your information. We never have and we never will. We don't share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
We do use a small number of well-established companies to run the business. They only process your data on our instructions, under a contract that requires them to keep it secure.
- Kajabi (United States) — hosts our website, courses and members' area, and sends our emails
- Stripe (United States and Ireland) — processes card payments
- PayPal (United States and Luxembourg) — processes payments
- Google Analytics (United States) — tells us how the website is used
- YouTube, part of Google (United States) — videos embedded on our pages
- Vimeo (United States) — videos embedded on some of our pages
- Netlify (United States) — hosts some of our pages
Beyond these, we would only share your information if we were legally required to — for example if a court ordered it, or if we had to in order to establish or defend a legal claim. If we ever sold the business, customer records would transfer to the buyer, and we'd tell you before that happened.
Your information leaving the UK
All of the companies listed above are based in the United States, so your information is transferred outside the UK.
We rely on the following protections, depending on the provider: the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, and — for providers certified under it — the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
In plain terms: these are legal contracts and certification schemes that require the company receiving your data to protect it to UK standards. If you'd like a copy of the specific safeguards we rely on for any particular provider, email us and we'll send them.
How long we keep things
- Records of purchases and payments — 6 years from the end of the tax year, as HMRC requires
- Newsletter subscriptions — until you unsubscribe, then a short period to make sure we don't email you again by mistake
- Course accounts and progress — for as long as you have access to the course, plus 1 year
- Contact form messages — 2 years
- Website analytics — as held by Google Analytics under its standard retention settings
When a retention period ends, we delete the information or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you.
Cookies and similar technology
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. We've kept this deliberately simple, and we don't use a cookie pop-up — here is everything that's on our site instead.
Essential cookies. These make the site work — keeping you logged in, remembering what's in your basket, and protecting against fraud at checkout. The site can't function without them, and under the rules they don't require your permission.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and where it needs improving. We don't share it with anyone for advertising and we don't use it to identify you personally.
If you'd rather we didn't, click “Turn off analytics” at the bottom of any page on this site. That's the whole process. It's free, it takes one click, it deletes the Google Analytics cookies already on your device, and it stops any further analytics on that device for five years or until you switch it back on. You don't have to give us a reason and nothing else about the site changes.
If you'd prefer a browser-wide setting instead, you can install Google's own opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or turn on your browser's “Do Not Track” setting.
Video. Videos on this website don't load until you press play. Until you do, nothing is requested from YouTube or Vimeo and neither company can set anything on your device. Once you press play, they may set their own cookies, which are theirs rather than ours — see Google's privacy policy and Vimeo's privacy policy. On a small number of our product pages hosted separately, the video player may still load with the page; we're changing those over.
Advertising and tracking pixels. We don't use any. There is no Facebook pixel, no TikTok pixel, and no retargeting advertising on this website.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though blocking the essential ones will stop parts of the site working.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the following rights. All of them are free to use, and we'll respond within one month.
- The right to be informed — which is what this policy is for.
- The right of access — you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- The right to rectification — if something we hold is wrong or incomplete, you can ask us to correct it.
- The right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your information. Sometimes we can't, for example where we're legally required to keep sales records for six years, and we'll always explain if that's the case.
- The right to restrict processing — you can ask us to pause using your information while a dispute is sorted out.
- The right to data portability — you can ask for the information you gave us in a common electronic format, so you can take it elsewhere.
- The right to object — you can object to us using your information on the basis of legitimate interests. If you object to direct marketing, we will stop, always and without question.
- The right to withdraw consent — where we rely on your consent, you can take it back at any time. This doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so we don't hand your information to the wrong person.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information
Please tell us first. Email [email protected] and put “Data protection complaint” in the subject line so it doesn't get lost.
We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days of receiving it, investigate it without unnecessary delay, keep you updated on what's happening, and tell you the outcome and why.
You can also complain to the regulator. You don't have to come to us first, though we'd like the chance to put it right. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the UK's independent authority for data protection:
- Website: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
- Helpline: 0303 123 1113
- Post: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF
Keeping your information safe
Your information is held on the systems of the providers listed above, all of which are established companies with their own security measures — encryption in transit, access controls, and the rest. Access on our side is limited to the people who genuinely need it, which in practice is a very short list.
No system is completely secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. But if there were ever a breach that put your rights at risk, we would tell you and the ICO, as the law requires.
Children
Our courses and newsletters are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we'll delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If it's a significant change, we'll email newsletter subscribers and customers to let them know rather than quietly editing the page.
